The true story of American LGBTQ+ liberation from the beginning to Stonewall.

Episode Guide

A serialized podcast produced & hosted by Devlyn Camp.

1924-1954

Season 1

follows the true story of a secret organization created by Harry Hay that catalyzed the American gay rights movement in 1950. From its spark of inspiration in 1920s Chicago, through secret speakeasy-style meetings that brought together anonymous homosexuals, the host journeys into the McCarthy-era paranoia that pulled the activists apart and scattered the seeds of the homosexual rights movement long before it was immortalized by Stonewall.

1954-1963

Season 2

picks up in 1954, right where we left off. (But you don’t need to hear season 1 to follow along.) A secret organization of lesbians forms as the national Mattachine Society crumbles. A political revolution is launched by a drag queen. Police raid gay spaces and street queens fight back.

The masks come off and a militant minority is rising.

1963-1970

Season 3

follows the Movement from 1963 to 1970. We’ll experience some of the most famous raids in queer history at California Hall and Compton’s Cafeteria, march in the first defiant pickets for our rights, and shake the walls of the United States Government.

The revolution still stalked by the FBI and many other enemies becomes unstoppable as young militants like Barbara Gittings, Ernestine Eckstein, Randy Wicker, Reed Erickson, Sylvia Rivera, and Marsha P. Johnson bring our story to its dramatic conclusion at the Stone Wall.

Queer Serial is told in serialized episodes. Explore the Episode Guide here.
